Student Welfare & Pastoral Care at our summer camp

Exsportise offers one of the most generous staff-to-student ratios available and takes the safeguarding of its students extremely seriously.

Our goal is to ensure the safety, happiness and well-being of all of our students and with this in mind, we provide:

  • very high supervision levels with an overall on-site staff-to-student ratio of one staff member to four students

  • a designated House Parent for each house with staff bedrooms spread around the boarding houses for help and support

  • all staff are residential and live on-site 24-hours a day

  • experienced and professional staff dedicated to student welfare and enjoyment

  • on-site medical officers, multiple first aiders, medical treatment facilities and hospitals nearby

  • police checks and Child Protection training for all of our staff

  • closed campuses – students are not allowed to leave the site unaccompanied at any time

  • a fully-accompanied travel and transfer service from and to all major international airports and the Eurostar main terminal in London.

TRUE ME Sessions

These sessions aim to facilitate and promote the development of student's personal and social growth and opportunities to improve their self-confidence and leadership skills

PARENTal CONTACT

During the first few days of camp, some students get homesick. Our staff are trained and experienced in identifying signs of homesickness and offering support and comfort. As students settle into camp and get involved in all the various camp activities, homesickness usually disappears. Excessive contact with home during the first couple of days can make homesickness worse so we encourage parents to help their children become more independent by keeping contact to a minimum. Our staff are trained to identify any emotional changes in students’ behaviour that might cause concern and they will ensure the children are fully supported to overcome any issues and make the best of their time with Exsportise. We work closely with parents to ensure the best experience for every child.

Injury / ILLNESS AND MEDICATION

We have senior pastoral staff at each camp who are trained in first-aid and the administration and dispensation of medicines. Please make sure that we understand what medicines your child requires and in what dosage and frequency. We will contact you if your child is unwell and unable to participate in activities to discuss the best course of action. We will also take your child to the doctor or hospital if it is necessary. If your child is taking medication when they start the camp, our staff will help them to do so and store their medicine in a safe place. The Player Welfare Form you complete before arriving will ask about medication but you may be asked again when you arrive at the camp to ensure the information is up to date.

DIET, NUTRITION AND HYDRATION

We check students are eating and drinking enough at mealtimes. Water is always available during sports sessions and our coaches ensure players regularly re-hydrate. We also talk to the students about the importance of nutrition and hydration in workshops and throughout their time at camp.

We can cater for all dietary requirements when notified in advance. You can tell us about any dietary requirements in the Student Welfare Form or by email.

Meals on camp are nutritionally balanced and designed for young athletes and active young people. There is a variety of meal options to choose from, including a vegetarian option. We monitor each student to ensure they are eating and drinking enough during the camp and our coaches and teachers ensure sports players and dancers drink lots of water during sessions.

BEHAVIOUR at CAMP

All students are expected to follow the camp rules. Our Exsportise camp behaviour policy is designed to ensure that each student is safe and enjoys their time at camp. You can view the policy here.

We respond quickly to situations involving verbal or physical intimidation, fighting or persistent bad behaviour. We pride ourselves on having a professional sporting, dance and music learning environment and therefore the use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs are strictly prohibited.
